HOW TO ACCESSORISE TO IMPROVE YOUR IMMUNITY
Autumn is a fabulous time for fashion!
And as you begin your inevitable autumn closet clean-out - swapping over your summer clothes for warmer winter woolies - it’s also the perfect time to prioritise protecting your Lung Qi for better health this season.
In Chinese Medicine it's understood that disease is carried into the body by Wind, and the most open and exposed area that allows disease to enter, is the neck.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Wind is one of the Six Evils, or external pathogens (the others being: Cold, Damp, Heat, Fire, and Dryness). The neck is particularly vulnerable to Wind and Cold invasions and leaving your neck exposedto any kind of cold air, whether it’s a natural breeze, or the office air-conditioning, can allow Wind and Cold to enter your body where it doesn’t belong.
When Wind enters the body it is usually accompanied by either Cold, or Heat and a Wind/Cold or Wind/Heat invasion is the equivalent of catching a cold or flu. That is why the first symptoms of a cold or flu are often a stiff or aching neck followed by aches, chills/fever, and fatigue. A stiff or aching neck is the first sign of a Wind invasion. Frequent Wind invasions deplete your Lung energy also making you more susceptible to further invasions.
That’s why the best accessory you can ever have wherever you go, is a scarf. Personally, the colder weather always prompts me to wear neck protection - whether that’s a scarf or a hoodie, or a high neck sweater - to protect my neck from wicked wind invasions. So when Autumn weather gives you the opportunity to clear out the old and make space for the new, embrace the chance to accessorise. Break out your favourite scarf, rug up your lung Qi and enjoy the Autumn season with confidence and exceptional health.
